Scott “Slip” Mahoney - Percussionist As the inspirational leader and founder of SAJE, Scott has played drums for over 35 years. He studied with legendary jazz/rock-n-roll drummer, Freddie Kahn, and jazz percussionist and music professor Jim Miller. Scott has performed with numerous bands across a wide genre of music, including jazz, rock, folk, and traditional Irish music with groups such as the Mahons and sitting in with Blackthorne. Scott enjoys performing in intimate settings with small jazz combos featuring a variety of string, percussion and wind instruments. He counts Elvin Jones, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Miles Davis and John Coltrane among the artists who have influenced his passion for music. Chris McGonigle - Keyboard and Bass Chris grew up in Delaware County and his start in music began on keyboards with local bands then moved onto jazz piano. Subsequently, he transitioned to learning bass guitar with an instructor and continues his lessons presently. Although he joined SAJE as primarily a bass player, he looks forward to his chances of demonstrating his skills on the keyboard for audiences as well! Eric Madison - Guitar Eric has been playing acoustic and electric guitar for 30 years, and counts as his jazz influences George Benson, Pat Martino and Wes Montgomery. The soulful licks of Eric’s guitar were heard for several years as he entertained patients and visitors, along with pianist Alan Wolf, in the main lobby of Lankenau Hospital. In addition to jazz, Eric enjoys playing other types of music and is a current member of the Legends Band of Delaware County, a 23-piece ensemble which is part of the county’s Senior Community Services(SCS) volunteer organization. Tom Sottile - Tenor and Alto Saxophone Tom has played saxophone for over 30 years, beginning with a string band in the early 1990s, and continuing with local concert bands.
